The Tastiest (Healthy!) Fall Snack
We are always on the lookout for a tasty office snack, and this week we decide to make our own! Apple chips fit our requirements: easy, not too unhealthy and very delicious. I’d tell you that they can last up to two weeks in an airtight bag, but in truth they lasted about 5 minutes before we munched them all up. Read on for the easy recipe!
Baked Apple & Pear Chips
- 2-3 small apples
- 2-3 small pears
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat oven to 225° F. Wash apples and pears, pat dry. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Using a mandoline slicer (See our recommendation here!) set at 2, carefully cut fruit into thin slices. Spread in an even layer over a sheet pan and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake in oven for 2-3 hours, until dry and slightly crisp, flipping halfway through.
Note: After cooling chips will crisp up even more! Be careful not to over bake them.
Using a mandoline makes it easy to get perfectly sliced apples. We love this handheld version from OXO. It does the work of a full-sized mandoline while being small enough to fit in a drawer and easy to clean!
Choose firm fruits that will slice easily. The tart Mutzu apples were a favorite at the office!
Cinnamon is the classic pairing with apples, but nutmeg or ginger would be tasty as well!
