Inside the Plated Kitchen: Mother’s Day with Teresa Giudice
You’ll likely recognize Teresa Giudice as a cast member of reality TV show Real Housewives of NJ. In addition to being a TV star, her passion for cooking led her to create four Italian-inspired cookbooks. Her latest, Fabulicious! On the Grill, was released May 7, 2013 – the same day her recipes were delivered to Plated chefs!
Since Giudice is a mom to four girls, we thought it would be perfect to talk to her about Mother’s Day with her family and how she gets her daughters involved in the kitchen. Read on for our exclusive interview with her:
Q: What are your Mother’s Day traditions?
A: My kids wake me up with a special breakfast in bed that they make. My favorite thing they do is a fruit plate where they take all the little pieces of strawberries and grapes they cut up and make a pattern or a picture on my plate for me. And I end the day with my own mom. I cook her a special dinner.
Q: Is there a special dish you enjoy making every Mother’s Day?
A: Since Mother’s Day is always a Sunday, I make pasta, usually my mom’s favorite mini meatball lasagna. It’s how she used to make it for us when we were little. Instead of chopped ground beef that’s been fried, we make these little, little, little meatballs–so small, like Cocoa Puffs size. We fry them up and then add them as the meat layer to the lasagna. It’s so good!
Q: How do you get your daughters interested and involved in cooking?
A: My kids want to be wherever I am, and I’m usually in the kitchen, so they’ve always been interested in cooking. And I let them cook with me, actually do the steps and prep for me. That gets them excited and then they feel like they made the meal too!
Q: What is the best cooking advice you’ve ever received?
A: The best cooking advice I ever got was from my mom. She told me when you cook, you’ve got to put the love into it. It doesn’t matter what you’re making, if you put your love into it, your family and friends will taste how much you care about them!
Q: What is the best dish you’ve ever made?
A: My Steak Pizzaiola. It’s so good, I’ve won cook-offs with it.
Chef Challenge: Always use fresh ingredients, and don’t forget to add love!
