February’s Culinary Theme: Huddle Together and Stay Cozy
We know that in most of the country it’s nothing short of frigid outside, and the days, though getting longer, still seem to turn dark too early. Even so, we’re excited about February thanks to three events which exemplify our love of food, entertaining, and togetherness: Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, and the most anticipated football game of the year! Thanks to these events—and the joy of hosting family and friends for warming, comforting meals—our theme this month is Huddle Together!
When the weather’s bitter, we love to warm up with comforting Asian dishes, from steamy bowls of noodles to rich, saucy curries. While we can’t get enough of the Asian spices and their comforting, filling ingredients, we’ve customized each Plated meal so that you can pick your level of heat and lighten them up, so you don’t feel that post-takeout malaise. Our veggie-packed Thai Green Curry features eggplant, broccoli and a crunchy cashew topping. If you’re looking for meat, however, look no further than our better-than-takeout Beef Lo Mein with crunchy snow peas and scallions. As you can see, we’ve got noodles on the brain, and our Peanut Noodles with Bok Choy and Eggplant is a creation that’ll please everyone. And, we can’t forget a continual favorite: Ramen. We created our own super-warming version complete with leeks, mushroom, miso, and, of course, a soft boiled egg.
Instead of going out for dinner, maybe this can be the year you stay in, avoid the crowds, and cook for Valentine’s Day. We’ve upped the romance ante on classic dishes like grilled cheese and tomato soup by adding fragrant truffle oil to the sandwich and serving it in the shape of (what else) a heart. If you’re looking for something even lovelier, our pizza bianca is topped with gooey goat cheese, mozzarella, and Gruyère, not to mention maple-sautéed Brussels sprouts and a balsamic reduction. You can also recreate that epic Lady and the Tramp moment by ordering our repeat favorite: Spaghetti with Ricotta Meatballs and Marinara Sauce or Szechuan Lamb Noodles with Bok Choy.
Even in the depths of winter, we’re embracing our favorite veggies; from creamy sausage-stuffed mushrooms to an entirely vegetarian take on shepherd’s pie, featuring shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and green lentils with creamy mashed potatoes on top. Because we can never get enough potatoes in all their forms, we’re put together two takes on the classic baked potato. Our Test Kitchen received rave reviews on the Cheesy Baked Potato with Mushroom Marsala Sauce, and we just had to include our Twice-Baked Mexican Sweet Potatoes, which are stuffed with bell pepper, spinach, sour cream, and black beans.
In celebration of Mardi Gras, we created a classic Shrimp Gumbo with Crispy Okra that’s a snap to put together (and even easier to eat!). And when it comes to returning favorites, we’re bringing back our Cheesy Enchiladas Suizas, this time with squash, black beans, and corn. Last but not least, our entire team has been counting down the minutes until our Green Chile Chicken Tacos would make their return to the Plated menu, and they’ve finally arrived!
So, get ready for a short month full of tantalizing dishes that will keep you and your loved ones cozy, together, and deliriously satisfied.
