5 Reminders Why Cream Cheese Frosting Is Every Baker’s Secret Weapon
You may not be aware of this, but today is National Cream Cheese Brownie Day. We know it’s not an official national holiday, but since we celebrate sweet treats on an unofficial basis pretty much constantly, we don’t mind putting it on the calendar. So in honor of today and every day, we hope everyone says a hearty thank you for one of the most delicious concoctions of our time—cream cheese frosting.
A brownie is a delicious treat all on its own, but once you add a heavenly marble of sweetened cream cheese throughout, forget about it. Cream cheese frosting is one of the unsung heroes of our time, and we’re here to make sure it gets the respect and adoration that it deserves. And what better way to do that than with an ode to its many graces?
1. It’s So Easy
You can jazz it up with whatever fancy additions you want, but at its core, cream cheese frosting is simply cream cheese and something to sweeten it, all mixed up together. It’s up to you whether you want to do said sweetening with powdered sugar, honey, molasses, or even maple syrup.
2. It Plays Well With Others
Once you have the base together, most people add a touch of vanilla to this dessert staple, but you can also brighten it up with a little citrus, or use any number of flavor additions like chai, pumpkin, Nutella, or peanut butter to fit the unique needs of whatever dessert you have in mind. We’re drooling just thinking about it.
3. You Can Put It On Anything
Whatever sweet concoction you come up with, this frosting just makes it better! You can slather it onto a red velvet cupcake, use it as a layer in a carrot cake trifle, or even just use it as a dip for fresh strawberries. Cream cheese frosting is like that guest who makes every party better—always invited.
4. It Can Be As Sweet (Or Not) As You Want It
Some people like to sweeten their cream cheese mixture enough to make it comparable to any other typical frosting, but if you love it as much as we do, try it tangy-er! Sweeten with honey and add lemon zest to really make the flavors pop against whatever sweet cake you elect to use it on.
5. It Helps You Eat Your Vegetables
If we’re being honest with ourselves, a carrot cake without cream cheese frosting is just a sweet veggie loaf. (No offense, carrot cake.) But a topping that turns vegetables into dessert? Be still, our beating hearts.
We’d love to sit here and effuse about cream cheese frosting all day with you, but our time today would probably be better spent eating/baking all the new recipes we discovered while writing this post.
